Sufferin' bar steward, Table 13

I can hear Tish's laugh as the footie girls understand the cocktail name for their table. Why is that, do you think? Might they have made a bar steward suffer on an occasion or two? Have they ever refused to go home at the end of the night? Do they insist on 'on more, no more'? No body knows. But actually this cocktail has a more romantic link (well, kind of). This cocktail is actually a hangover recipe and it was during a hangover that Abby and Dimi first realised they would spend the rest of their lives together.

After an innocent night out with Hils, Tish and Doctor Rocks (the latter giving up her football career to work at NASA) where shots may or may not have taken place, poor Abby had the worst hangover ever known to man or beast. As she lay on the bathroom floor embracing the toilet bowl and drawing her last breath, she knew Dimitris would be horrified by the sight of her and would soon be asking her to leave, permanently. Little did she know, what was actually going through this head was the realisation that he couldn't live without her (or that she clearly couldn't live without him). Dimitris didn't know this recipe at the time, but that day he did everything in his power to help Abby, including laying down next to her on the bathroom floor until she felt better (roughly, Tuesday). So weirdly enough, hangovers have a rather positive association for this couple.

For a laugh, we tried this recipe and quite liked it, so here it is:

1 ounce bourbon

1 ounce gin

1/4 ounce fresh lime juice (we add 1/2 ounce!)

Dash of Angostura bitters

3 to 4 ounces chilled ginger ales

Mint sprigs

Shake the bourbon, gin, lime juice and the bitters vigorously with ice. Strain intro an ice-filled collins glass. Top with ginger all. Garnish with the mint sprig.
